The 75th Annual Sports Star of the Year, Presented by MTR Western 

Over 1,000 people packed Benaroya Hall on January 19, 2010 to see who would be named the 2009 Sports Stars of the Year as voted by online, a first in the event's history.

Special guests in attendance included: Steve Largent, Danielle Lawrie, Marv Harshman, Lenny Wilkens, Lorenzo Romar, Ed Viesturs, Warren Moon and Jamie Moyer.  It truly was a star studded evening.

Originally created by Royal Brougham and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer in 1936, the PI Sports Star of the Year award banquet has celebrated the achievements of local athletes, coaches and others in the sports industry for three quarters of a century.

This year the event was recreated as a high-energy awards show.  ESPN sportscaster Kenny Mayne and the voice of the Seattle Seahawks Steve Raible were co-hosts and presented the awards along with a variety of Washington sports icons.

Another first for the event, was the silent auction that took place during the preshow reception.  With over 45 packages from sports memorabilia to vacation getaways to private sports celebrity outings, the silent auction raised nearly $30,000 for the Seattle Sports Commission and Seattle Children's Hospital.
