The Professional Sports Star of the Year Award is given to a professional athlete, group of professional athletes, or a professional coach to celebrate outstanding sports achievement or success in the past year or season. Nominees accepted must be from the Pacific Northwest or play/coach here in the Pacific Northwest to be eligible.

| Felix Hernandez At age 23, he came of age -- establishing himself not only as the Mariners’ ace, but also as one of the best pitchers in baseball. Setting career highs in almost every category, he posted a 19-4 record, a 2.49 earned run average and 217 strikeouts in 238 innings and finished second in voting for the American League Cy Young Award. |
| Swin Cash
The Seattle Storm forward recovered from off-season back surgery to score a record 22 points and be voted Most Valuable Player in the WNBA All-Star Game. She finished the season as Seattle’s third-leading scorer, trailing only superstars Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird, and led the Storm in the playoffs with a team-best 21 points per game. |
| Kasey Keller
A longtime veteran of Europe’s best soccer leagues, the Lacey native helped Seattle become the first expansion team to make the Major Soccer League postseason in 11 years. He posted 10 shutouts, 12 victories and the league’s second-best goals-against average (0.92) and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player. |
| Tayler Malsam
From sprint cars to NASCAR, the rookie from Sammamish had 10 top-10 finishes on the truck circuit, including three straight at Texas, Michigan and Milwaukee. He finished on the lead lap in 10 of his first 11 starts and later added a fifth-place finish. He ended up with nearly $330,000 in winnings and was runner-up for Rookie of the Year.

Just one year after going undrafted out of college, he was thrust into the middle linebacker role and became a leader of the Seahawks defense. Despite not starting until Week 3, he finished at or near the top in solo tackles, interceptions, forced fumbles and sacks. |
